The new .name domain was created
to give people a unique idenitification on the Internet, communication
systems and
a number of other new technologies. It is the first and only global
top-level domain (gTLD) for individuals, approved by the Internet
Corporation
for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) in November 2000. The first
.name domain resolved on the Internet on 15 January 2002.
You
may use the youranimalsname.accoyo.name or youranimalsname.alpaca.name
or youranimalsname.llama.name identifier to simplify
access to your more valuable animals whether you currently have
a web address or need to have one established. There are a number
of animals with similar or the same names so the rule of first-come
first-served applies here.
Here
is an example of how you can use your new name. Let's take for
example the little suri Southern Sunrise with
the URL of
www.merrill.org/alabamaalpacas/herd/southern_sunrise.html
I
won't ask you to remember that URL but I do believe you would
come closer to remembering
SouthernSunrise.Alpaca.name
The
new .name address simply points to
the old URL and allows you to keep what you have but
now with
a new 'front
door'. You may now send both addresses to the search
engines of your choice
and in most cases you will double your exposure. The
new .name has
a more professional appearance that will help you in
your business activities later on.
With
its' recent opening, .name became
structurally and technically identical to e.g. .com and .net.
